Labor created the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in 2013 – the biggest social policy reform since Medicare.
For people with disability, their carers and families the NDIS will be truly transformational.
The NDIS assesses disability funding from a needs-based perspective, looking at individuals on a case-by-case basis and allocating funding by taking the individual’s interests into consideration. This can include adjustments to everything from daily care rosters to house and car modifications.
It encourages individuals with disabilities and their families to engage more actively in life. By empowering individuals to choose the best way to receive government assistance, individuals can engage in work and community activities without being held back by the allocation of their support services.
The Commonwealth and Victorian Governments have signed the bilateral agreement on the full rollout of the NDIS in Victoria.
That means we know which areas of Victoria will get the NDIS next.
Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley and Wyndham will get access to the NDIS from 1 October 2018.
