Powering Communities Grants Program – 2021

We are pleased to announce the commencement of the Powering Communities Grants Program for 2021-2022.

Purpose: The Powering Communities Program will provide $10.2 million in grants to help not-for-profit community organisations reduce energy use, improve energy productivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The program aims to assist organisations to:

  • Upgrade equipment to reduce energy consumption and improve energy productivity.
  • Undertake energy management activities and assessments, such as energy system assessments and feasibility studies
  • Invest in energy monitoring systems
  • Invest in on-site renewable energy and solar-connected batteries


Eligible projects include:

  • Purchasing and installing rooftop solar PV system and solar-connected batteries
  • Replacing existing eligible energy powered equipment with newer more efficient equipment.
  • Energy audits and monitoring


Amount available: Up to $67,7000 is available to funds up to 12 projects in each Federal Electorate. The minimum grant amount is $5,000, and the maximum grant amount is $12,000.

How to Apply: Eligible organisations must complete the online ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) form before the 6th September 2021. Following the submission, each organisations EOI will be assessed. You may then be invited to submit your application online to the Department. Nomination by my office and subsequent invitation to apply for the Powering Communities Grant does not guarantee that your application will be successful.
